Anyone who wants to trim and style men’s and boys’ hair and beards will have to get a Georgia Barber License. The process of getting qualified is not that easy. However, by following some basic steps you will, for sure, obtain a permit.
Making a career as a men’s hairstylist requires focus and dedication. First and foremost, you must apply for and finish 1500 hours of training. You must present your documents to the State Board of Barbers.
What is included in the course? The training is divided into two sections: theory and clinical services. The committee requires courses in Hair and Scalp treatments, Hairstyling techniques, Styling and Cutting, Permanent waving, Relaxing, and Chemical application, and Clinical services.
Like, Florida, Montana, and other states of the US, Georgia also offers an apprenticeship program for professionals. The main criteria are that the applicant must be at least 16 years old. The next stages are to pay a $45 charge, complete 3000 hours of training, and have at least 18 months of experience.
When you’ve finished your course, you’ll need to schedule two licensure exams: The National Written Exam and the Practical Exam. These both are computer-based written tests. The testing includes hair cutting, blow-dry styling, disorders, and straight razor shaving.
To register at the server, send a letter to PSI Services from the school/college where you studied. After that, you may book an examination by downloading and familiarizing yourself with the information bulletin, as well as paying $147.
The first examination lasts 85 minutes, after which the committee scores you on how well you perform the general activities: such as setting up, shaving, haircutting, etc.
The National Written Test lasts 90 minutes and tests your understanding of general caring, disorders, and scientific ideas. You can pass the state examination in Atlanta, Macon, and Tifton.
You can now apply to the Georgia Board of Examiners after completing the course and passing the license exams. To do so, you must first complete the following steps:
There is a reciprocity program for out-of-state licenses. In this case, the applicant doesn’t need to take any courses or examinations. All you have to do is create an initial request, reciprocal application forms, and make a $50 payment, then ship everything to the following address:
GA STATE BOARD OF BARBERS
237 Coliseum Drive
Macon, GA 31208
After submitting all of these steps you can apply for licensure. The fact is that all you have to do is fill out the request form and pay $75.
You should renew your license every two years after completing 5 hours of continuing education and submitting a renewal fee. All the documents you should submit to the Georgia State Board of Cosmetology and Barbers. You can also renew your license online.
First of all, you must fill in the renewal application by December 31st of even-numbered years. Before the due date, the board will send you a notice. Contact the local office if you haven’t received the notification. Both online and offline options are available for renewal. All you have to do now is submit the paperwork and pay the fee.
